Australian expat Tom Burmester and former Manus Island detainee Pyae Sone Aung watch a World Cup game in Portland.

Nearly all the stories we hear about the asylum seekers being held in detention on Nauru and Manus Islands are grim. Occasionally there are ‘good news’ stories that keep us working for an eventual just outcome and raise the morale.  We know so many Aussies here are doing all they can to bring about the release of these illegally held people and in a recent article in our news releases we learn also that there are Aussie ex-pats in the US who have taken it upon themselves to help redress the cruelty of our Government by helping those who have been given access to a new life in the States, overcome the difficulties of settling into a new country.
