In a report tabled in Parliament on Thursday September 12, the Australian Human Rights Commission found that the Commonwealth had breached the human rights of the families, who had children aged under six years old, when they were transferred to Nauru five years ago.  The head of the inquiry, who read the report stated that the report “makes for disturbing reading” as the conditions in which families were detained posed grave risks to their physical and mental health” and these conditions should not be repeated.  The report gives cogent reasons for the ongoing need for the medevac bill.
