Australia’s indefinite detention of refugees is arbitrary and illegal. Many have already been recognised as refugees by Australia – recognising that “return to their countries of origin was unsafe” but are still detained – for times up to ten years. As well as getting those detained on Manus Island and Nauru released, BASP believes all those in long term detention on the mainland should be given their freedom.
