Pregnant protesters locked up in detention despite refugee status

“Two heavily pregnant women who staged a three-day protest on a bus in Darwin have been detained in an immigration detention centre, despite being found to be genuine refugees on Nauru.

Refugee advocates have questioned the legality of keeping the two Iranian women in the Bladin detention facility in Darwin after they ended their protest late on Monday, rather than offering them accommodation in the Darwin community until their babies are born, under so-called “community detention” arrangements.”
