Pregnant asylum seekers to give birth on Nauru

Pregnant women will be giving birth on Nauru under the government’s “no exception” policy. A 22-week pregnant woman looks to be the first to give birth there, even though parts of the only hospital on Nauru burnt down in August.

The concerns for these women have been raised alongside concerns about the accelerated health checks now in place, which do not give time for full screening of diseases such as Hepatitis B, typhoid and HIV.
