What can you do? Plenty!

Are you feeling powerless about the ways in which Australia is dealing with refugees and asylum seekers, but not sure what you can do about it?

Engage with BASP by:

  • Subscribe to the BASP newsletter – subscribe / view
  • Visiting asylum seekers while in detention
  • Giving support after release from detention
  • Teaching English to asylum seekers
  • Providing support at the houses, such as working in the garden
  • Social outings for asylum seekers
  • Arranging social events
  • Assisting with the production and distribution of the newsletter
  • Assisting to organize and manage volunteers

How to Donate

Donations are not always about money.  You can contribute to BASP by the following activities:

  • Advocacy – Write to you local member of Parliament (or call in and see them) and ask for a more humane approach to asylum seekers.  We have an Advocacy Proforma Letter Hazaras – Afghanistan to help get you started.
  • Employment – We are very keen to hear from anyone who has a job opportunity for asylum seekers.
  • Food – is very welcome; eggs, sugar, rice, flour, salt, two minute noodles, cooking oil, tea and coffee, long life milk, tuna, canned tomatoes, canned fruit, spaghetti or other pasta.
  • Cleaning materials – and dishwashing detergents, toilet paper.
  • Vouchers – from Coles, Big W, Kmart or similar stores allows asylum seekers the independence to buy something they really want and need.
  • Cards – MYKI or Phone cards.

Financial Donations

All financial donations will go towards practical support of asylum seekers or those who have recently received refugee status.

Cash donations of over $2 are also tax deductible.
